LifeServe Notes: Day One

Leadership Nugget:
Ministry team will have a healthy growth process as a leader assesses the maturity of the group. The progression goes from training/motivating (do what I do) to mentoring (I watch what you do) to full empowerment (you teach others what to do). Every leader should strive to equip teams and individuals to grow in this process.
All leaders are called to equip others. “To equip” literally means “to mend nets” or “to set a broken bone.” Equipping is assisting others become what they were created to be. It is forming something that is broken into something useful. Mending and setting also involve connecting. Leaders are ministry connectors.

Quote of the Day:
“Becoming an Equipper involves a significant shift from being a ‘doer’ to becoming an ‘influencer.'” – By Vernon Armitage (By the way, Vernon Armitage is the mentor in the story that is presented in Me to We. He has 40+ years of equipping ministry experience!)

Inspirational Conversation  of the Day:
with Pastor Joe Cookston (serving as Executive Pastor at Salem Church of God in Clayton, OH). We had a great discussion about the way his church leadership recruits ministry team coordinators and members. He strongly emphasized the need for personal interactions and conversations with potential leaders. He has developed a discipleship course called “Starting Point” that introduces people to the ministry of Salem and opportunities to use their gifts and talents in serving others.

Where I was Personally Challenged Today:
I need increase my time in prayer and encouragement of ministry leaders, especially those for who I have staff responsibility.
