My Kingdom Go (Lesson #32- Summer School with Jesus)

Today’s Reading: Matthew 6:10 (HCSB)
Therefore, you should pray like this…Your kingdom come. Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.

Today’s Question:  What is the next big event that you are looking forward to on your calendar?

Today’s Commentary:

I have been warned by many at different times in my life not to “wish my life away.” I am future-oriented and continually looking forward to something that is on the horizon of life. I look forward to big, significant events and even small, trivial events (like the fact that the NFL football season is about 2 months away from beginning).

As Christians, we look forward to the day when Christ returns and establishes His reign on Earth. This is a literal event that will take place when the appointed time arrives. I am looking forward to this because God will restore all things to the perfection before the Fall, when sin entered the world.

In Heaven, everything is perfect. The worship of God is pure. God’s will is done perfectly in Heaven and thus makes this a place without sin, pain, or grief. Our desire as Christians is to live in His will. To do so, we must repent of our selfish desires, by faith turn to Christ, and choose to live for Him. This is doing His will on Earth. Before we can pray, “Thy kingdom come,” we must be willing to pray, “My kingdom go.”

George Mueller, who is known as the “prayer warrior,” fed thousands of orphans with food which God provided in answer to prayer.  He wrote that “Prayer is not overcoming God’s reluctance. It is laying hold of God’s willingness.” May we adopt this attitude of obedience and dependence upon the One who can supply every need.

“Follow One, Lead Others” Principle #32: The follower of Jesus seeks for nothing more than to do His will.

Today’s Prayer Point: Ask God to give you an eternal perspective on life and the ability to say to the Lord, “Not my will but Yours.”
