The potential to radically impact the world for Christ that is partially due to a missing link. Many believers have not made the connection between the gifts of the Spirit they possess and the call of Christ to share the Gospel. The fact is that most Christians do not share the Gospel. In addition, less than 20% know what their spiritual gift is. One can see more than the symptoms of the problem. The local church must rediscover the treasure of God-given spiritual gifts that will motivate individual believers to become potent witnesses for the Gospel of Christ.
One area of ministry that suffers the greatest when the gifts of the Holy Spirit are neglected is that of evangelism. Rarely has this critical link been realized in doctrinal circles. Believers have been equipped with a supernatural ability that mobilizes and motivates them to share the Gospel.
One of the reasons that many of the great evangelistic programs fail to enlist more than a small percentage of members in any given church is that they present a style which is only motivating to one particular spiritual gift. For example, one with the gift of prophecy would love the opportunity to go door-to-door and engage people regarding their sin, judgment, eternal destination, and reason for hope. Yet, few of those with the spiritual gift of mercy feel comfortable initiating a conversation with the question, “If you died tonight, would you spend eternity in heaven or hell?” Men and women gifted in serving, who sacrificially give of their time and talents when a disaster strikes, should be trained in sharing the Gospel while they are working. When believers begin to understand that they have been blessed with a spiritual gift that empowers, they will be free to share the Gospel effectively.
